Hydrogen-Dedicated Open-Access Pipelines RFI

ARCHES is releasing an RFI for Hydrogen-Dedicated Open-Access Pipelines to gather feedback on developing an integrated network of 100% hydrogen-capable pipelines across California. Through this RFI, ARCHES is seeking input from pipeline developers, potential users, and industry stakeholders on pipeline development strategies, costs, regulatory frameworks, and operational considerations.

ARCHES aims to design and build out pipeline infrastructure similar to the current natural gas transmission system, enabling cost-effective hydrogen distribution, demand aggregation, and connections to large-scale storage facilities. The initiative supports ARCHES’ goal of structuring an end-to-end hydrogen ecosystem and marketplace.

Request for Qualifications: Heavy-Duty Fuel Cell Electric Truck

The Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for the ARCHES Class 8 Fuel Cell Electric Trucks (FCETs) is now open and will accept responses until September 29, 2025, at 11:59 pm PST. From the RFQ responses, ARCHES will shortlist one or more applicants to begin negotiations, aiming to secure incentive funding agreements that support the deployment of 5,000 FCETs. This project is vital to the overall success of California’s hydrogen ecosystem, stimulating both the vehicle and production markets.

Who Should Participate

  • Truck OEMs with 10 years of experience manufacturing Class 8-day cabs or sleeper trucks, preferably including designing and building fuel cell electric and/or battery-electric trucks
  • Component manufacturers demonstrating at least five years of experience designing or building heavy-duty fuel cell systems

How to Participate

  1. Read the full RFQ: Heavy-Duty Fuel Cell Electric Truck
  2. Tune into the virtual information session on Wednesday, July 23, at 12:30 pm PDT.
  3. Write a response answering all of the questions in Section 2 A-H in a document no longer than 25 pages in length using a 12-point font and 1-inch margins. Include requested attachments in the PDF (these will not count toward the 25-page maximum length). Make sure to follow all of the guidelines in the “RFQ Response Format” section.
  4. Submit your PDF and Excel worksheet to Box by September 29 at 11:59 pm PDT.

Heavy-Duty Fuel Cell Vehicle Development Strategy RFI Results

In November 2024, ARCHES released an RFI: Heavy-Duty Fuel Cell Vehicle Development Strategy to gather feedback on its proposed frameworks for supporting fuel cell truck and bus market development in California. This RFI received responses from fuel cell electric truck and bus manufacturers, truck fleet operators, transit agencies, hydrogen station developers, and individuals and organizations familiar with these businesses or technology transition strategies. ARCHES plans to supply over 250 tons per day of renewable, clean hydrogen to trucks and buses by the end of 2030, helping fleets reach a total cost of ownership that is competitive with legacy combustion technologies while advancing toward clean energy and air pollution reduction goals. This document provides a summary of the key takeaways from the 50 submissions that ARCHES received.
