On October 13th, the Biden-Harris Administration announced that the California Hydrogen Hub, led by the Alliance for Renewable Clean Energy Hydrogen Energy Systems (ARCHES), was selected to become one of seven federally funded hydrogen hubs under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. 

As part of a $7 billion federal program to launch seven regional Clean Hydrogen Hubs across the nation, including Californi, Mayor Karen Bass today commended the initiative for what she says will foster sustainability, climate resiliency and add hundreds of thousands of jobs.

DOE awarded money from last year’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to California’s Alliance for Renewable Clean Hydrogen Energy Systems (ARCHES), a statewide public-private partnership led by the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development, the University of California, the California State Building Trades Council and the Renewables 100 Policy Institute.

The Golden State will receive up to $1.2 billion to build or expand on hydrogen projects that will help power public transportation, port operations and heavy-duty transport — sectors known to be major contributors to greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution in the state.

The ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach stand to reap millions of dollars from a federal Clean Energy Grant announced Friday, Oct. 13, which will bring $1.2 billion to California.

Stakeholders across the state have praised the United States Department of Energy’s (DOE) award to California and have applauded the work ARCHES has done to secure the funding.
